We were very much surprised to find this $399 dollar Toshiba Satellite L500-ST2522 laptop, offered as a New Year's clearance.

The base laptop parameters include Intel® Celeron® processor T3000 (1.8 GHz), Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 32-bit, 1GB memory, 160GB hard drive and 802.11n wireless. One can, of course, customize it. However, the price will go up.

Toshiba laptops are known for durability. They are a little heavy, but that's where the durability comes from. It's worth the price.
